Thoses scratches were certainly caused by a bad cleaning of the front lens... It
shouldn't be
a big problem, even if you may have a kind of loss of contrast anyway. But
you're right: the
best way to know is to try!

What I've always heard is that lens scratches generally do not cause problems, unless they are deep and light has a chance to sort of bounce around inside the...
