I am so far resisting the idea of switching to Mach 3. The CNC Pro
controller works so well. My biggest motivation for switching to Mach
3 is having to use floppies to get my gcode into my controller
computer. Does anyone have a USB under DOS method that works well and
isn't too complicated to get working?
Ok. but i am not sure how to keep it alive though.

Thank you for your approval, I'm not interested in spamming. THank you
also for files and images. You should join the "sister" group, is
still alive. Anyway, I will read this group, gathering all useful
informations.
1. Reagrding to Internet (about groups, you already know), I don't
know, we easy find tracks of TurboCNC on internet, are many sites
referring it. Is free and if you buy it, you can get also the sources
and this is another point of attraction. I accidentaly discovered
CNCPro and I'm glad now is public domain with the sources. You can
find it but first you must know what you are searching for ;) . I
think is not largely used, or users don't have a site to speak about
it. LinuxCNC with his emc2 on a Linux Ubuntu Hardy LiveCD is a great
offer. Is a good solution for modern computers.
2. - you know the answer -
3. No, not yet. Not yet a CNC, but I'm gathering parts. Of course, I'm
curious about code. I have an old computer in construction, good also
for Microchip programming...

Doug,
It certainly can't hurt to leave the files up. Some
day someone may want to take a look at them for some
odd purpose, who knows, there can be tons of reasons
for it.
I visited the web page and most of the links are not
working... is it under construction? I"m eager to
take a look at the night school link.
Rick.

When I acquired the cncpro files from Doug Yeager I put them up on my
personal website until we found a permanent home. It's been so long I
cannot remember where the permanent home is.
Anyhoo, I may be cleaning out my pages at crankymachinist soon. So if
anyone thinks these files need to be left up there you should let me know.

Hi to all,
I have been working on this Lathe conversion to CNC in between writing
programs.
There are pictures at:

Hope this will input some interest in Lathe conversions.

Yep, I noticed the little crown thingy in my list of groups right
after it appeared. As Mel Brooks once said, "Its good to be the king" ;)

Hi Jerry,
I have subscribed to CNCPRO as well. The history of this seems a bit
weird but at least there is real activity going on.
I have been tinkering with TCNC and now have a C version that works
about 95% so a Linux/DOS derivation could happen sometime soon (time
permitting). I wanted to create an open project on SourceForge called
TCNCinC but the problem is that TCNC's roots are in the Pascal version
and I morally feel that I need the authors permission to open it up.
Copyright is not an issue since the printable source code is not the same.
I am currently playing with an arm based development kit (AVR32
Network Gateway) that has all the I/O's, USB, CF socket and Ethernet
to make a dedicated controller. As it comes with Linux I have visions
of TCNCinC running on it.
As you said, too little time!
Regards
David

Hi, David:
Fancy meeting you here!
You probably ought to join the groups.yahoo.com/group/cncpro list -
that's where you'll find source code, etc. and more traffic than on this
list.

We had about 250 members here when cncpro went open source a few
months back. Tonight we hit 500 and the sister group
(http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/CNCPro) is up to 380 members.
These are significant numbers for what was thought to be an outdated
program.
I am curious.

open source?
2. Are you a new or returning member?
3. Are you now using cncpro?

Hi Rod;
You will find more activity, help, and free downloads on CNCPRO, our
sister group. This group is mainly kept open for the archives.
If you are new to CNC you need to join DIY_CNC as well.
Good luck;

Hi Doug !
My experience with cncpro is that you have to manualy turn on cv before you
run a Gcode file.I have had great succes with runing in cv mode .I am mainly
cutting acrylic 1/8-1/4 " thick .Whenever I forget to turn on cv the cutter
slows down then speeds up in rapid succession which of course leaves the
undesirable flat spots along the arc or spline.
I have been runnig MasterCam for the past 4 years with good results.Of
course the pain is with cncpro you cant have long file names .Because of that I
have to open the Gcode file in cncpro and read the heading of the file to make
sure I am runnig the correct one.For a while I experimented with Mach 3 wich is
more complex than cncpro. It has features that I wish cncpro had such as onscreen
toolpath verification. But it is more difficult to set up and more sensitive to
noise than cncpro.

One nagging issue with cncpro has always been its non-functioning
constant velocity mode. I can't help wondering if the problem was
actually a misunderstanding of how it was supposed to work.
Early CV strategies utilized G8/G9 to turn off accel/decel between
moves. The programmer still had to calculate velocity changes and
enter F values at appropriate places in the sequence. It was not
set-n-forget. Each path was started with a G9 terminated with a G8
(full stop) before the stepover move. OK, I can't even remember which
(G8, G9) was which but you get the picture.
Mastercam can be configured to generate the correct code. I have never
used it though and wondered if anyone else has tried this method.

Ron,
I think the biggest thing that got done was to make the system only
run in the max version and with no liscense required. There was talk
of a lot of things, but it was mostly a flash in the pan. Haven't
seen much traffic on that group either lately. I believe the biggest
problem is the lack of documentation to see how things are put
together. Trying to de-cipher just from the raw code without the
background knowledge is a pain.
The last thread I saw was a person trying to run from a floppy and
having problems as dos could not read his ntfs drive and it wouldn't
recognize the floppy as a "C:" drive no matter what he did. So I
believe that answers your question on file handling:{(

Hello all,
I Posted a little program that I call Gcode Converter in the Files. It
will convert a flat pattern Gcode file into a cylinder wrap. It can be
useful for engraving rings, etc. Also a set of examples and a text file
that explain how it works. A little tricky due to the way CNCPro
handles rotary feed rates.
Hope that someone may find it useful.
Al
Not much to ask about , I have had CNCpro for enough years that I have
run out of questions.
It just plain works .
Did any of the guys that were working on Doug's code after he made it
public domain manage to make any improvements ?
Like file handling
