Hello Everyone,
We have been working very hard for the last couple of months on
rewriting the Yahoo! Media Player from the ground up. And now, the
fruits of our labor are finally ready to be unveiled. Version 2.0
(build 2.0.14, to be precise) is now available on the "test" URL:
http://mediaplayer.yahoo.com/latest. We invite you to try it out, and
help us find any bugs that may still be lurking in there, so that we can
polish it up and release it on the main URL
http://mediaplayer.yahoo.com/js in the next few weeks.
Here are some of the key improvements we have made over version 1.x:
* Smaller code footprint
* Faster load time
* Easier way to specify metadata for tracks
* A way to continue the playback experience, when navigating to
other pages
* Asynchronous retrieval of playlist contents
* Support for additional media formats, including WMA, WAV, M4A
(more on the way)
* Support for multiple playlist formats, including XSPF, M3U,
ASX
* Display of playlists as "nested" inside the main page's
playlist
* Improved ease of customization, including a choice between
using custom CSS colors or full image skinning
* The option by the page author to prevent playback from
automatically advancing to the next track
* The "Buy" button will no longer appear unless either the page
author specifies an Amazon affiliate ID
We will be adding documentation on how to get the most out of these new
features over the next week or two, on the public wikia site:
http://yahoomediaplayer.wikia.com/wiki/Yahoo_Media_Player_Wiki.
There are more features in the works. We hope you will enjoy these.
Please give us your feedback by posting to this group!
Cheers,
-Mike Davis
