Subject: old Media Player has API but new Web Player does not?!
cubadj89

Hi guys, I am unable to control the new Web Player using the same javascript
which I had been using for Yahoo Media Player. However, while Yahoo Media Player
had a very useful API, the new Yahoo Web Player does not! This means that I am
unable to make any changes to get my player working again.

Do you have a link to an API for Yahoo Web Player, or if not the code for the
old Yahoo Media Player? The new web player is more or less useless to me without
an API.

Thanks

Subject: YMP is loading duplicate tracks on playlist !
sam.lahaie75
Send Email Send Email

Hello,

I love Yahoo Media Player, and I don't want to use another player for the
website I'm developing.

I'm working on a Wordpress theme based on ajax, and I'm using this function to
add tracks after the ajax reload of my pages:

<script type="text/javascript">$(function() {
YAHOO.MediaPlayer.addTracks(document.getElementById("main"),1,false)});</script>

The tracks are adding fine, but the problem is that it's adding the same tracks
that are already on the playlist of YMP. I mean that when a user go to "page 1",
it loads the tracks of this page, and then he goes on "page 2" and come back on
"page 1", the player add the same duplicate tracks on the playlist. Is there a
way to prevent the player from adding tracks that are already inside it, but in
the same time keep the play buttons inside the content after every page load ?

I tried to turn "false" into "true" on my function to clear the playlist but it
breaks the ajax page load...

May you have a solution for me ? Thousand thanks for helping... And sorry for my
approximative english, I'm from France :)

I'm having a difficult time tracking the various versions of Yahoo Media Player
/ Web Player. Like a lot of other folks in this group, I've done quite a bit of
custom scripting with the Yahoo Media Player API:
http://mediaplayer.yahoo.com/api/

However, the new Web Player docs at http://webplayer.yahoo.com/docs seem to
indicate that the latest player has a very different API.

Does the API referenced above only apply to a specific version of the player? If
so, what version is that? And is there a dependable long term URL where we can
continue to access the JavaScript source for that version?

If the API referenced above no longer applies to the new player, where can we
find the documentation for the new API?

Thanks.

Hello everyone,

I have a cd track listing on a web page with some of the text linked to mp3
files.
The play icon from the yahoo media player indents the text so the list now looks
messy.
Is there any way to have the icon appear at the left of the text without moving
it.

Thanks for any help

Let's not talk about the "why I have 2000 mp3s on a single, non-paginated site".
Does anyone know of how I could speed up the initial loading of Yahoo for large
lists?

I realize I can make an xspf - but, two questions:
a) Will an xspf speed up the loading, as opposed to letting YMP parse page?
b) Can I even disable yahoo from indexing the in-page mp3s, yet still allow
users to click the mp3 link/play button?

I guess what I'm really asking is if there's a way to have the page function
normally (complete with playable links and the Yahoo-added play button/icon
beside each mp3 link) but have it run from an xspf file instead, and disable
parsing? My guess: no. But maybe there's a creative solution (e.g., something
with js?).

Thanks guys!

I agree with you White Downs.

I think there should be the options of customization of colors for the player.

My "heavy-duty" site got stuck when changing to the new player. Had to get a few
things reprogrammed.

Well, it's still in Beta, so I assume there will be fine-tuning before we have
the final version which hopefully should have all the customization features
like many other online web-players.

Happy Holiday Season!

I'm not sure to what extent this might have changed with the recent
overhaul of the player, but with the previous version, the player would
use whichever scriptable engines existed on the computer on which the user
was viewing the web site. For MP3 files, it would try to use Flash first,
and then fall back to either Windows Media Player on Windows machines, or
QuickTime on Macs.

For other types of files, only one type of engine would be capable of
playing the file. For an M4A, example, it may be that there is no
playback engine installed on a given machine that is capable of playing
the file. All OS X Macs have QuickTime built in, which can be used for
this file format, but not all Windows machines do.

Does the Windows machine that you are using for testing have QuickTime
installed? Can you play the files on that machine using anything other
than the Yahoo! Web Player? If not, you may have found your problem. In
that case, try installing QuickTime (free download from
http://support.apple.com/downloads/#quicktime) and see if that fixes it
for you.

If it's not too much trouble for you to do so, the best fix is probably to
convert your audio files to MP3. That format is pretty ubiquitous across
all platforms.

Cheers,
-Mike D.

Thanks for the info Mike. You are right: I do not have a player capable of
playing the .m4a files on the system, but the same problem is occuring on the
webplayer.yahoo.com home page which uses .mp3 files. No buttons appear, but at
least the linked files will open in WMP. I am getting the following error

My Yahoo Web Player worked beautifully up until about mid December, thereafter
MP3s opened only in Quicktime which necessitates changing screens to open the
Quicktime player (slow and cumbersome). There is nothing "Quick" about changing
from one MP3 to another. I get the impression from reading other posts that
Yahoo changed something. I'd love to have a better handle on what exactly
changed, and I'd love even more to know how I can get back the streamlined web
player that worked so beautifully. Looking for enlightenment. Hope some of you
out there can help me out.

The new player no longer has the option to popout into a separate window. There
was also some promise in 2008 for the ability to stream across web pages (eg.
across a number of pages on the same site that shared the same Yahoo! player).
Are either of these options in the work with the new version? We are looking for
a solution that will let users play a playlist while browsing multiple pages on
the same site (persisting across the site, or in a separate popout window).

Ahoy-

I have an oddball use case that i'd like to run by you. Wondering if you might
have some advice....

On my site, there's a certain state of the page that causes a lightbox-like
modal dialog box to appear (via some jquery plugin). This box contains a link to
a song. I want that link to play first. I've added the tabindex attribute to the
link, but it doesn't seem to honor that (or it's already started playing a song
from the underlying/parent page).

Here's an example... This link should play a song called "Being Elvis Costello"
(which is something like track 19 on the parent page)
http://songaday.netscrap.com/songs/?scrap_id=1720&scrap_category=35

but it ends up playing track 1 on the parent page ("Until Next Time").

Note: the player seems to find the mp3 link inside the iframe which is good... I
just can't seem to push that song to the top of the playlist.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

CG

PS- if you're musical and want to try your hand at writing and recording 1 song
a day for the month of February, ping me.

Hi all?

I'm a newbie of the forum and I've landed here because I'm interested to see
yahoo web player working.

I've installed on my Blogger blog but it seems that a lot of features doesn't
works (e.g. playlink parameters, displaystate, and so on).

Worst of all, the size of the player is too invasive and make it almost
unusable. I need to minimize it but when I do it, the playe stop to play and
that is a behavour almost stupid.

Reding the previous messages I see that all of such issues were hihlightet by
users but none of the Yahoo technical staff has ever replied.

Is this a ghost forum? This post tries to answer such question. In the
meanwhile, I've disapled yahoo media player from my site: for now is pure
rubbish.

I've just found the solution!
You can find it in the changelog of the new version of my plugin
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/webplayer-yahoo/
1.6.1
Volume setting works. We have found the bug in WebPlayer documentation. This is
the correct describtion: The volume parameter sets the default volume of the
Yahoo! WebPlayer on page load. The player expects a floating number between 0.00
and 1.00. The default value is 0.50.
