That doesn't sound like a Redhat, SUSE or Mandrake
version number. What distro? If it does not support
RPMs you won't be able to install from RPM. Last I
looked there were Gzipped binaries through and you can
use those. To use the gzip'ed binaries you'll have to
manually add any gui items like adding it to your
menus/taskbar, etc.

5.04 sounds like Ubuntu 5.04 (hoary hedgehog). Which is a Debian based distro. Which means it's not a rpm based distro. Which means it uses .deb packages....

It's probably Ubuntu. Since yahoo messenger is so outdated, and doesn't support voice or video, I would suggest Gaim, which is already installed with Ubuntu. ...
