This seems like a reasonable request, We've added two new parameters to
listUrls - sort and sort_order - to enable you to do this. Details are
on the documentation page, but you can sort by almost every field.
Title sort would just be sort=title.

Is there any plans to open the PIM features of yahoo up? There are so
many ways people could integrate with these tools. Whenever I'm
building something, I'm thinking, "I wish I didn't have to build
contact information into other apps since I'll have to copy and paste
most of it into Yahoo Contacts anyways or have contact information in
50 different places. Yahoo Contacts could be THE defacto contact
database if you would let us use it. Same goes for Calendar.
Thanks for your question. This FAQ entry should provide you the answer:

Q: Do you plan to expose <service>?
Quite possibly. Many factors contribute to whether we can make a
service available including available resources, data ownership issues,
and support questions. We're constantly trying to add new services, and
hopefully we'll get to yours soon. In the meantime, please add your
request to our Feature Requests page. We do read them and use them to
prioritize our resources where possible.

I made this: "TagLines"
http://www.francisshanahan.com/taglines/default.aspx?cat=All
it's an auto-folksonomy tool built using the Term Extraction APIS.
It combines Ajax with Folksonomies and Yahoo Web Services to allow you
to search on RSS feeds, News, Movies, Images or just obtain the
original story, all without a page-refresh.
Would love to get some feedback on it or suggestions for improvement.

Dearest,
I greet you in the name of our GOD.
My name is Mrs. Angelina Ebony Dazza. I am a widow and a
mother of a girl without a male Child.
I know you will see my letter to you as an
embarrassment considering the fact that we do not know
ourselves. I plead with you to be patient with me and
give me audience because I found myself in a situation
that I don’t have any option than to look for a
Foreigner who can help me in this problem I found
myself, so I feel very pleased to contact you for your
assistance and business relationship.
I live in Cote D'Ivoire with my only Daughter. My late
husband was a loving, caring and hardworking
Businessman who deals on OIL AND PETROLEUM BUSINESS
but was killed by hired armed assassins.
Before the sudden death of my beloved husband, and
father of my daughter, my late husband intended to
make an establishment through the assistance of his
FOREIGN PARTNER outside Africa with the sum of
US$15,000,000.00 (FIFTEEN MILLION UNITED STATES
DOLLARS) but unfortunately he died before this
proposed venture without even submitting the
particulars of his FOREIGN INVESTOR whom the money was
to be transferred into his account.
Following his death, his family members insisted that
I am not entitled to his property (Assets and money)
since I am a woman and my offspring is only a girl and
I do not have a male child for my late husband
claiming that it is what our tradition entails. Well,
because of this barbaric traditional law in the Tribe
of my Late Husband which doesn't permit a woman to
inherit her Husbands property incase of death if she
has no male child, the relatives of my late Husband
are expected by tradition to take over the management
of his business and other properties.
Unfortunately to these wicked family members of my late
Husband, the US$15,000,000.00 which my late Husband
intended to invest abroad through his FOREIGN PARTNER
was deposited in a bank account unknown to them.
I am requesting for your total assistance to me in
transferring this fund into your account. Then I and
my only daughter will leave this country and come and
meet with you in your country where we wish to stay
for the rest of our lives to enable me take care of my
only daughters educational needs since my late
husband's family members vehemently opposed the
furtherance of her education.
At this juncture, I therefore ask for your sincere
assistance in providing me with your bank details and
the ennoblement to facilitate the remittance of this
money into any of your nominated Bank Account
Particulars.
As soon as I get your positive response, I shall
provide you with all the necessary detail for this
transfer including the documents of the deposit of the
money, which is in my position now.
I have decided to give you 20% of the total money as a
reward for your sincere assistance and 5% for any
miscellaneous expenses that might be incurred in the
transaction while the remaining 75% of the money will
be put into any lucrative investment of your choice
, which of course will be under your Management and
control.
Please for confidentiality and secrecy because at this
moment my only daughters and I is staying in a
guesthouse where we hid for the security of our life.
Kindly contact me through my email
and I will call you when you give me
your telephone contact.
It is important I inform you that my late Husbands
bank has assured me that there will be a smooth
transfer of the money into your account that you will
summit to them, I want you to know that the transaction
is 100% risk free and successful.
Thanking you for your anticipated co-operation and
response urgently.
Remain Blessed.
Yours Respectfully,
Mrs.Angelina Ebony Dazza.

No, there's no interface for configuring proxy settings built into the
Java SDK. The only way to control the proxy settings is to do it how
you are currently doing it, through Java system properties.

It looks like you have an authenticating proxy server. I see you're
setting the username and password for the proxy in your code, are you
sure you've set it correctly?

Hai Ryan Kennedy,
I am pretty sure as I have used the same username and password and
other settings which I have used for google webservice.
Yesterday when i tried I have observed the following REST exception.
Underlying cause: com.yahoo.rest.RestException: Request failed, HTTP
407: Proxy Authentication Required
at com.yahoo.rest.RestClient.call(RestClient.java:94)

at MyWeb.main(MyWeb.java:37)
I searched for this exception but could not get relevent nformation.

I've been trying with no luck to use the content analysis service with
non-English content as well as UTF-8 encoded content. Usually I get
back a blank result set. Has anyone else had any success getting back
terms? The times I do get a result set, the terms are usually
irrelevant. For example, German content will return 'mit' and 'und'.
Are there any hints I can send in headers to make this work better? I
realize the service endpoint tells me
Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5
so it is obviously expecting English.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your question. Could you send us a few queries that are
coming back blank for you (but have results on the yahoo search page)?
We'll take a look at them and see if we can find the problem.

Toby,
Here's a page that will post a query to the content analysis service
and return no results. I've searched Y! for some of the terms in this
text, and there are plenty of results.

Thanks for the pointer. I'm afraid I misread your initial email. The

This is due to the browser security. It won't allow a web page served
from foo.com to access yahoo.com. They don't allow this because it
would then be very easy for people to implement cross site scripting
attacks or to send your personal information from one site off to another.
I know in Mozilla browsers there's a way to ask the user if it's okay
to make an offsite request. I'm not sure if there's an equivalent on
all other browsers.

Ok...
I'm writing an application to query Yahoo termextraction in
traditional ASP. I want to pass up some text to the term extractor
and then parse out the keyword result.
The process I'm trying to go through is:
1) Use XMLHTTP to get the contents of a remote file
2) Pass the contents of this file to the termextractor, again using
XMLHTTP
3) display the keywords that are returned
I've done 2) and 3) successfully by writing a simple html form with
my appid, and a form field for the "context" field. No problems,
returns the XML response as you would expect.
BUT when I try and POST what I downloaded using XMLHTTP in 1), I get
a response, but it is incredibly limited - maybe 3 <Result>'s rather
than, say, 15 - ***with the same block of text***.
What's even more nuts is that if I hardcode the contents of the
remote file into a variable in my code, it works fine. It's just the
process above that doesn't work...!!!
I'm *guessing* this is an encoding issue but can't for the life of
me work out how to fix it!
Help....
I'd like to write a program in Perl utilizing the Yahoo API and Yahoo-
Search module for automating mass downloads of the thumbnails returned
by the Yahoo Image Search engine. First I'll use the Yahoo-Search
module to extract the links, then download them with the LWP module.
Does anyone know if such a program violates Yahoo's terms of service,
or if a perl module or script, exists for already doing something like
this? I see there's already a program that does something similar
with Google's search engine called Googlegrab at
http://www.sas21.de/apps/googlegrab/ , except it downloads the images
linked by the thumbnails, and I don't know what language it's in.
Hi Robert,
This sounds fine, but just to be sure:
1) How massive do you mean when you say "mass downloads"?
2) What is this LWP module you speak of?
3) How are you planning on using the thumbnails?

Up to 5000 thumbnails a day.

It's a perl programming module that makes web page downloading easier.

Just to view them, and maybe download the full-sized images they link
to, if I like them.

Doesn't sound like you're doing anything that would get in the way of the
non-commercial terms to me.

For the life of me I have not been able to utilize the Search (Local)
results (ResultSet) in an XSLT generated table as given. The
attributes in the RESULTSET heading are causing the problem, so when
removed, I am able to generate a table. I just need the attribute
heading removed in the DOM object and I'm trying to find the best
workaround. I've attempted to removeallattributes and removeattribute
but these don't seem to work. The stylesheet I'm using is not able
to "match" any root or ResultSet variation I give it (eg / //ResultSet
etc) so I don't get a display. Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Never mind.. I figured out my problem was that I needed to include the
namespace information in the stylesheet, and I couldn't delete these
related attributes as they are part of the element identification...

I've done some simple testing on the productSearch API, and am totally
confused by the results I am getting. They do not match what I get
when I manually do searches on 'auctions.yahoo.com'. Additionally, it
appears as though Amazon.com is also searched, I do not want this, as
I am doing searches against amazon using their api.
Thank you for your question. You might have an easier time matching the
results with those on shopping.yahoo.com, as this is not an auctions
API.
For example, take a look at
http://shopping.yahoo.com/search?p=ipod++shuffle
versus
http://api.shopping.yahoo.com/ShoppingService/v1/productSearch?
appid=YahooDemo&query=ipod+shuffle

Oh, sorry. Stupid me. I misunderstood. Is there an api for auctions?

Thanks.
I would be very interested in the API if you do expose it.
