Description
Zaurus Otaku
Kurabu (or ZOK for
short) is Japanese, and could be translated as gZaurus Nerd Clubh. Itfs a
discussion forum for afficionados of the Sharp Zaurus PDA series, and it had a
traditionally rather narrow focus on the MI-models sold only in Japan (mostly
610/EX1/P10/C1/J1/E1/L1/E21), but was expanded to include the 2001
Linux-based SL-5*** models, although these, in turn, were only available outside
of Japan. Today, the model range we discuss includes the A300, B500 (which is simply the Japanese equivalent of the SL-5600), and the clamshell type C7** that came out in the past two years. This list used to
be a hangout for users and developers of the Japanese Zaurus only, but overall
interest in PDAs based on Embedded Linux has been growing quite fast, and as
far as this list is concerned, users and developers who work with the SL series are more than welcome. Most ZOK members
are not Japanese, yet located in Japan. This is hardly a membership requirement,
but is often reflected in discussions centering around the availability of old
and new software tools for the traditional Zaurus platform, along with usage
hints especially for foreigners sometimes at odds with its proprietary OS and
strictly Japanese GUI.
